My First Conference as a Speaker
Preparing While Managing Anxiety and Building Confidence
This week, I was announced as one of the speakers for TDCS’ The Digital Connect Conference, taking place in January 2025!! A big step that brings excitement mixed with some nervous & anxiety as this will be my first time talking at a conference. Speaking in front of an audience is thrilling, yet nerve-wracking. Here’s how I’m preparing while keeping my nerves in check.
Step 1: Structuring My Content
My first step is solid research and creating a clear, engaging outline. Breaking the material into sections gives me control and makes the content feel manageable and impactful.
Step 2: Practicing My Delivery
I’m dedicating time to practice, recording myself to adjust tone, pacing, and clarity. This process will help build my confidence and shifts my focus from “what ifs” to areas I can control.
Step 3: Visualizing Success
I will spend a few minutes daily visualizing a positive experience—speaking confidently, connecting with my audience, and receiving a good response. Visualization helps turn anxiety into something more manageable.
Step 4: Seeking Support and Feedback
I’ve been open with friends and mentors about my nerves. Their support and feedback on my outline help me feel reassured and give me fresh insights on how to improve.
Step 5: Practicing Mindfulness
When anxiety kicks in, I pause for deep breaths and practice mindfulness. These small moments ground me in the present and remind me that it’s okay to grow gradually.
Looking Forward
With each step, I will gain more confidence. The nerves may not disappear, but I’m ready to embrace them as part of the journey. Hosting my very first breakout session is a chance to grow beyond my comfort zone, and I’m excited to share how it goes.
Until Next Time, Bye!
